Tonight's dinner was all grown by our family. There is always a sense of pride and security when you look at your plate and know all of the food came from my garden, barnyard and farm.
The heat was horrendous in June and July. All time records were broken for the hottest days and the most days over 95 degrees. It was time to escape to the high mountains. I packed the kids, their fishing poles, sleeping bags and headed to the high mountains for a backpacking trip.
Hopefully, the cows do not come home too soon and they enjoy the cool summer mountain meadows. Every July, I have the privilege to follow cows up to the mountains with my Uncle. I would say chase, but the cows are excited to go and they know their way. So, really it is a chance to ride my horse and follow the cows up the trail to their summer home
Summer evenings can be hot and sultry, in front of a hot stove in a house with no air conditioning is no place I want to be. I would rather be out in the garden picking veggies or sitting in the yard under the oak trees.
